Unlimited Banger Racing
Unlimited Banger Racing is what most people would class as 'real' Banger Racing. This is where you find all the big cars like the XJ Jaguar, Ford Granada and Toyota Crown as well as the big old American cars.
Unlimited Bangers usually attract a large turnout of spectators looking to get their fill of metal crushing motoring mayhem, that only these big cars can provide.
Whilst these 'Big Bangers' look like fun and can be very entertaining, there is a huge amount of time and hard work involved in turning these cars into race worthy wrecking machines. It isn't just a case of take out the glass and away you go! These cars need to be built to a high standard to insure driver safety at all times.
However, the Unlimited Banger scene has changed somewhat since the mid nineties, where it was at it's peak with big money 'open' meetings almost every month. These meetings created what was known as the traveling circus of Banger Racing where the sports top drivers and teams would travel all over the UK (and Europe) in search of these big meetings.
Nowadays, this traveling circus has all but gone. You still get the big meetings but with the dwindling supply of suitable cars and with a lot of the big teams (Suicide Squad, Surrey Street Squad, Ant Hill Mob, Predators, Motley Krew etc) all but gone they attract less popularity.
The exception to this rule being the annual Firecracker meeting at Arena Essex which usually attracts around 200 cars each November with a large amount of these cars being what we call 'material'(Rover P5's, Austin Westminsters, Limo's, Yanks etc). Other meetings like the Blockbuster, Cowdenbeath World Cup, and Icebreaker also still attract a good turnout of drivers and teams and are well worth a visit.
