Pre 70 'Golden Oldie' Banger Racing

Formulas index...

Pre 70 Banger Racing is probably the most controversial form of short circuit motor racing.

This type of Banger Racing features stripped out classic and rare cars (built before 1970, or sometimes 1968) being bashed and crashed in the same way as your traditional bangers.

Many classic car enthusiasts have shown concern over the number of classic cars being destroyed and can often be found at race meetings attempting to 'purchase' them to stop them from being destroyed.

To be fair, most Banger drivers will not race a car that is deemed to be 'too clean'. Most of the cars raced are beyond (financially viable) restoration and are usually stripped of anything useful, and as such become a donor car to keep similar 'roadworthy' vehicles on the road. It is also worth mentioning that a lot of banger drivers are members of classic car owners clubs and actually own classics on the road.

The Pre 70 Bangers feature such classics as the Austin Westminster, MK10 Jaguar, Austin Cambridge, Rover P5, Morris Oxford, Riley 4/72 as well as a variety of old Daimlers, Humbers and old Hearses and Limousines.

There is on average about 5 Banger Racing meetings per year for these classic cars, with the most popular by far being the pre70 classic bash at Mildenhall, Suffolk, which regularly attracts 100+ of these rare beauties. The pre 70 Banger meetings at Hednesford, Arlington and Wimbledon also attract a healthy array of cars and are well worth attending.
